Wanderlust

My hubby and I love to travel. If we have unlimited time and money, we will use it to travel the world and see the beauty of God’s creation. Unfortunately, we can only get off two to three weeks a year and we definitely have very limited budget. So we use what time and money we have to travel once or twice a year, usually to a new destination, either within the Philippines or out of the country.

In the past fourteen years, we have discovered local gems, some within an hour’s driving distance, while others are a few hours away by plane. This section of my blog is about our travel adventures around the Philippines and abroad. Here are my top five local destinations:

El Nido, Palawan (We stayed in Miniloc Island Resort)

What we love about it:

  • The crystal clear waters
  • The rich marine life just a few steps from our water cottage
  • Kayaking in the lagoons and around rock formations surrounding El Nido

Batanes (Basco, Sabtang and Itbayat)

What we love about it:

  • The rolling hills of Basco
  • The traditional houses in Sabtang
  • Trekking around Itbayat

Coron, Palawan

What we love about it:

  • The marine sanctuaries and the awesome marine life
  • The rich history of Culion Island (Ok, it’s not technically Coron, but we accessed it via our Coron trip)
  • Cayangan Lake and the Twin Lagoons

Siargao Island, Surigao Del Norte

What we love about it:

  • Learning to surf
  • Island hopping and exploring caves and the Jellyfish Lake
  • Hopping on a habal-habal and circling the entire Siargao Island in a day
  • Ahem, the washboard abs of the local and international surfers

Bantayan Island, Cebu

What we love about it:

  • The quiet and virtually tourist-free white sand beaches
  • The cheap food treats – one of our best treats was BBQ and softdrinks from a corner BBQ stall
  • Walking and biking around the town center and buying dried danggit and pusit in their public market

Can I add some honorable mentions? I just can’t ignore the other fabulous places we’ve been to.

  • Dumaguete, Negros Oriental
  • Puerto Princesa, Palawan
  • Caramoan Islands, Camarines Sur
  • Tagbilaran City and Panglao Island, Bohol
  • Dimakya Island, Palawan

There you have it. How many of the places I mentioned have you visited? Do you have other recommendations for local travel?

What other places outside the Philippines did you love?

Come explore the world with us!
