This is the first time I’ve taken photos of a baby older than a month. I love newborn photography, there is no doubt about that. But with this shoot, I realized I love baby photography in general. This was a very quick shoot. I had just enough time to take a few photos and get back to my hotel to check out and fly home to Manila.

Rafa, 6 months, was asleep when he arrived with his parents Kokoy and Anna. We decided to meet at the Singapore Botanic Gardens which is just a few minutes away from my hotel. It was a partly cloudy morning and it had been raining a bit earlier.  It was almost noon when we got started, and the ground was still a bit wet from the early morning drizzle. We found a shaded spot and looked for the driest area we can find. We woke Rafa, and thankfully, he did not get cranky. What a sweet baby! Here are a few shots I took that day.

For those asking me about baby photography, these are the ideal ages for shooting photos:

Newborn:
1-3 weeks ideally. The younger, the better.

Infant:
3-4 months – Milestones to capture: Baby smiling and cooing, responding to play like peek-a-boo
6-7 months – Milestones to capture: Baby lifting head (as shown in the photos above); baby sitting, crawling a bit
9-12 months – Milestones: Baby standing up, holding on to something, taking first steps

Thanks for looking!
