I recently heard the jingle of Seiko wallet over the radio and thought it funny that they maintained the same song through decades (I think this jingle was written long before I was born!) but updated a few words. Here’s the old lyrics:

Seiko, Seiko Wallet
Ang wallet na maswerte
Balat nito ay genuine (pronounced /jin-yoo-wayn/)
International pa ang mga design
Ang wallet na maswerte
Seiko, Seiko Wallet!!!

This is the new one:

Seiko, Seiko Wallet
Ang wallet na maswerte
Balat nito ay genuine (now pronounced /jen-yoo-in/)
World class pa ang mga design (note the change from “International” to “World Class”)
Ang wallet na maswerte
Seiko, Seiko Wallet!!!

I used to laugh at how “genuine” was pronounced in the old jingle but now, hearing the updated and “correct” version, I realized it doesn’t sound as nice since the “genuine” no longer rhymes with “design”. And of course, “international” in the context of design sounds very dated. Hence, the switch to “world class”.

In related news, I kinda miss YKK Zipper ad. LOL!!!

YKK super zipper talaga
YKK zipper fashionista pa…

(Dec. 18, 2010) UPDATE!!!
Heard the Seiko Wallet radio ad again last night – three times! Lo and behold, it was back to the old lyrics and pronunciation of genuine (jen-you-wayn). Are there two versions? Or did they get enough protest from old timers that prompted them to switch back to the classic? LOL!
